In Georgia it’s 3:03 AM and I’m just not tired plus I’m watching Friends, I got it on DVD.

I for one do not sleep as late as 10AM!

This morning I dreamt that someone was trying to break into my house, so I tried to stop them, but they attacked me. When I got hit my mind ’skipped’ like a scratched DVD and played the same half second of me being hit over and over. When I started waking up I could still see and hear myself being hit over and over and my heart felt like it was beating erraticly; in time with the half second mind skips. During all of this last part I was awake enough to think that this was what a heart attack would feel like, but still enough asleep to have the mind skips. Also, I could move my eyes, but it felt as though a pressure was stopping me from moving as I tried to rouse myself from this (dream?). I tried to find an answer on google, bur due to the somewhat unique nature of my problem I found nothing helpful.

In addition to Detour3’s great answer:
It is normal for your heart to beat quickly when awaking from a scary or exciting dream. It has happened to me after every scarier-than-average nightmare. This adrenaline rush is also probably the reason why you woke up. The repetition of the last image in the dream after you woke up is also relatively normal. Probably caused by the image in the dream being so vivid, and again, because you woke up so suddenly. And when you do, your body sometimes doesn’t wake up at the same time your mind does, causing you to be awake, but still in sleep paralysis. In this state, it is normal to have mild hallucinations, including images, but also sounds from dreams. Having the last scene from a dream linger after waking up has happened to me at least once before, but didn’t repeat itself as in your case, but just sort of faded away gradually. But you know, everybody’s mind is different, you may be just more creative than me or something
And don’t worry, the heart attack and death sensations were also not real. In addition to sometimes seeing and hearing things, you can also imagine things that would have happened in your dream (death), after you wake up. If you believe in dreams having meanings, maybe you were worried about death, or something else, or just purely stressed out, before you went to bed. Relax

Everytime i have CQ or Staff Duty(in the Army)..there’s always a policy that says "You can’t have computers, TV. Radios, etc while on CQ/Staff Duty. You may only read Army related magazines that contribute to your advance in training."…or something close to that.

What do you think of that kind of policy?

IMO I think it kinda sucks because you’re on 24-hour duty doing nothing but reading..and reading doesn’t keep your mind active(wake) during that duty at all times. NOW..if you was to watch an action movie..or something interesting..I believe your mind can be much more active rather than reading any book.

YEAH I know people on here are gonna say…"Well..in Iraq my WHOLE platoon stayed up 36 hours str8 waiting for the enemy!". The thing is it depends on what you’re guarding, you’re guarding other soldiers than you can stay awake but for how long? It’s just a nick of time before you fall asleep without knowing you fell asleep. So it’s almost near impossible to stay awake that long. Even if you walk around for a couple hours then clean the halls for a while..you’ll still get tired & fall asleep right after you’re done.
I think if you bring a laptop..and a few DVDs..you’ll stay awake longer..and just as long as you keep the volume down to a point that you can hear something if anything happens..then it’s ok.
YES..this is kind of a rant but I really don’t care..and I know someone is gonna say.."Yeah while you’re watching a DVD the female soldier upstairs is getting raped repeatedly in your own room!"
Well things happen even if you’re reading a book or watch a DVD because you can’t really hear any screams from upstairs(in my barracks anyway).
Nah I’m not in AIT…by "training" I mean when you’re in a work environment than you are still training. I mean if you’re not in a warzone..and at work..then you’re always training…so the Army says.

Army CQ is NOT like Navy Watch. It’s a 24 hour shift where you are expected to stay awake the entire time. Purpose is to alert barracks personnel to emergencies, to maintain basic security of the building (IE call the MPs if violent fights break out or their NCO if people get out of order), and to control civilian visitors (be they girlfriends or pizza delivery guys.)

It depends on your command.

We couldn’t watch DVDs or surf the internet during the duty day, but that was all fair game after 1800 hours until folks showed up for PT at 0630. Reading definitely doesn’t keep you awake at 2 in the morning, and you can’t read at that hour anyways and have anything make sense.

Of course, if you let soldiers use electronics at night you also expect them to keep alert of their immediate surroundings and take regular walks around the building and upstairs for security checks.
